Reduced to its basics, drying wood is simple. The object is to reduce the moisture content of your wood to the relative content of the climate where the wood will reside, while trying to keep the lumber from distorting, checking, honeycombing, etc.
We use an iDry Plus vacuum kiln. The iDry uses a continuous vacuum to dry lumber by lowering the temperature at which water evaporates while using circulated hot air.
By drying at a lower temperature, we can speed up the drying time without hurting the wood or losing quality in the final dried product. The vacuum pressure also pulls moisture from inside the lumber to the outside, which is exceptionally great for thicker lumber.
